This website has been set up to let people know about the classic offshore cruiser “Ocean Pirate”. The various sections chart the background of the boat, the yard where she was built, how she fared in the first Round Britain Race and the journey she underwent to get to the start of only the third such race to be run which began on June 21 2008. It also now sets out her present role as a boat which can be used to undertake RYA Powerboat Training through our partner Norfolk Powerboating - www.trainingafloat.com and that she may be hired for corporate functions, Team Building events or even scattering of ashes at sea.
Her owner Mike Barlow said, “When we bought Ocean Pirate we knew some of her history including the fact that she had apparently competed in the first ever Round Britain Race in 1969. We had always intended to take her round the circuit again but the announcement that there was to be another race in 2008 gave us the impetus to begin the long preparation that was required for her to take part in the Classic Class of this historic event.
The site was constantly updated as we moved towards the start date and included details of the new engine installation, the trials (and tribulations!), details of the crew and all the other news that – we hope – made the site interesting and vibrant.
It now includes details of the race itself and how we fared and the problems we encountered along the way.
An e-book of our account is also available at a cost of £5.00 with half the sum being split between the RNLI and the Prostate Cancer Society - click on the link We hope that the reader will find the site interesting and informative and give some insight in to what makes this boat so special to own and operate.
Welcome to the world of Classic Offshore Powerboats!
